All vehicles entering and leaving the Smelter site must drive through a wash bay which washes away anything on or under the vehicle. This stops vehicles from taking lead dust out into the community. The waste material is washed away into a pit, which is cleaned regularly. Some on-site vehicles are also provided with disposable floor mats and seat covers which prevent the lead dust from being caught on the material inside the vehicle.
