Official Launch of the Tenby10 Project - at a special function in Adelaide by Hon John Hill, Minister for Health and Environment, Greig Gailey, Managing Director & CEO Zinifex, government, community and Zinifex representatives.

Additional Dust Monitors installed into the Port Pirie community - Originally only 4 dust monitors, now the Port Pirie Smelter have installed 11 High Volume Air Samplers (dust monitors) throughout the community. They are closely checked and monitored providing daily information to assist to improve dust and emission control.
Feb 2006- 2008
Port Pirie Smelter larger Tenby10 on site plant improvements -sThese improvements focus on Fugitive Emission Control across the Slag Fumer, Sinter Plant and the Pit. The improvements have been completed at: Concentrate Storage Shed, Kilns Raw Fume Pad, Gas Screw Flap, Slag Fumer Gastrain, Kiln Feed Seal, Kiln Fire Seal, Roast Fume Shed, BF Brick Flue

The Ambassadors represent the Smelter workforce and are committed to supporting the framework of idea generation and culture change across the site.

Dust Suppressant Agent applied on unsealed areas around Port Pirie Smelter site including the PIT area and Copper Plant Road.

Kindy Nutrition Program Kicks Off
Each of the four Port Pirie Kindergartens to receive tenby10 funding enabling them to provide fresh fruit and breakfast each day to the children as well as funding for applicances in the Kindy kitchens.

Dad's Breakfast - at the Ellendale Kindy as part of the Kindy Nutrition Program - to celebrate the importance of fathers and learn about healthy food choices.

New Female Changehouse facility at the Port Pirie Smelter site - In an effort to improve cleanliness and hygiene practices on site to reduce dust movement in the community.

CANdo Group formed
A Community Action Network Group delivering outcomes, made up of 12 residents from a diverse cross section of the community. The group works together to identify community initiatives that will assist in reducing blood lead levels and also improve the perception others outside of the community have about Port Pirie.

Port Pirie Smelter on site tenby10 audits commence - A simple housekeeping and photographic audit system, that is performed on a monthly basis throughout the site.

Lowest Blood Lead Levels for Contractors and Employees of the Port Pirie Smelter ever recorded - 43 employees / contractors with a blood lead level equal to or greater than 30ug/dL.

4 site surveillance video monitoring cameras installed at the PETS plant within the Port Pirie Smelter - The cameras monitor emissions at the Kilns, Slag Fumer, Blast Furnace and the Secondary Materials Storage Area (Pit). The cameras are connected to a digital video recorder to allow the smelter to review any emissions and their causes. Two more cameras have been installed to monitor the Sinter Plant.

Port Pirie Smelter launches 'Overbags' - Overbags are issued for use on site to protect employees and contractors home bags from becoming contaminated, reducing lead dust that could possibly enter the home and community.

Giant Reeds (Arundo Donax) were planted on the the north-east border of the Port Pirie Smelter site - the giant reeds will reduce the intensity of the wind over the Kilns area, reducing the movement of dust into the site and community.

Port Pirie Smelter Major Project Improvement - Slag Fumer Coal Injection Project completed - This project is designed to give greater control over coal injection rates and avoid putting the baghouse under positive pressure, a source of emissions.

Port Pirie Smelter Major Project Improvement - Blast Furnace Enclosure Project completed - designed to capture all emissions from the furnace.

Coakes Consulting Community Study - with numerous groups and individuals in Port Pirie to find out what they knew about the lead in blood issue and what they thought needed to be done to help address the issue.

No employees on Lead Transfer for the first time ever - while the number of contractors and employees with an individual blood lead level above 30 and 35ug/dL are at an all time low. Site hygiene initiatives such as the Respirator Fit Tests have had positive impact to achieving this result.

New BIS quick fill water truck joins a twin water truck which has been spraying down dust on the Port Pirie Smelter site since December 2005

Fog Cannon now operational at the PIT in the Port Pirie Smelter - keeping dust movement to a minimum especially when raw materials are being shifted by the mobile crusher in the PIT.

Nyrstar Port Pirie Smelter meets its Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Licence conditions for lead in air for the period ending December 2007 and continues to do so.

New tenby10 Awareness media campaign launched via TV, radio and print - reminding the Port Pirie Community of the powerful role they play in achieving the tenby10 goal. Campaign theme: 'For the future we all want'.

Lead in Air Monitoring at the southern boundary of the Port Pirie Smelter site lowest ever recorded - overall lead in air at the boundary monitors recorded as 50% lower than 3 years ago.

Breakthrough in Kids Blood Lead Results - The Department of Health released results for kids blood lead results as of December 2007, stating that 62 percent of children were under the national blood lead guideline of 10 micrograms per decilitre. The ten percent improvement during 2007 is the greatest rate of improvement ever recorded in one year. It is exactly in line with the Tenby10 Project's target.
April 2008
Youth Voice Awards Competition, funded by tenby10 - Involving the youth of Port Pirie to think about and get involved with the key messages of tenby10.
May 2008
New McMahon 'state of the art" Changehouse facility at the south of the Nyrstar Port Pirie site - The new changehouse was designed and built by McMahon Services, an initiative to aid in the further reduction of blood lead levels amongst McMahon contractors.

Nyrstar Port Pirie Smelter Slag Fuming Shutdown - A number of tenby10 related improvements made to the Slag Fuming Plant as part of the planned maintenance shutdown. All of these improvement projects are directly related to the further reduction of fugitive emissions from the site in line with the goal of the tenby10 project. Key tenby10 projects included: Slag Fuming Charge Port Venting (approx project cost $750,000), Gas Train Balloon Flues (approx project cost $500,000), #1 Furnace Boiler Fin Replacement (approx project cost $125,000), Slag Granulation Capture of Tapping Gases (approx project cost $390,000)

Excellent results from 'Corporate Environmental Audit' - conducted by a team of Environment industry related auditors, the audit recognised a strong awareness and support for tenby10 and the considerable progress made in improving environmental performance of the site.
