The Solution

There are so many ways we can all help to achieve tenby10, both at the Smelter and in the community. Many initiatives have been put in place to increase awareness, knowledge and understanding of tenby10, as well as to encourage discussion and transparency around the lead issue in the community so the goal of tenby10 is achieved.

Thanks to all the Mums of Port Pirie

The Smelter has already implemented many initiatives that contribute to reducing emissions on site and therefore reducing blood lead levels. These include major capital works projects such as enclosing the Blast Furnace, constant monitoring of air quality both within and outside the site as well as many small but effective changes to site policy that have raised the priority of minimising emissions and dust movement on site.  All these have contributed significantly to reducing lead blood levels in Port Pirie and amongst employees.

Many great initiatives have been also been undertaken in the community. Our schools and childcare centres have implemented nutritional programs, a vibrant communications strategy is in place to help raise awareness of the issue and the community van is accessible at local events to assist in increasing understanding of the lead issue in the community.

Additionally, the efforts of the CANdo group and support of tenby10 partners continues to be critical in assisting the project to continue its momentum in the community.
